Life Is a Bowl of Cherries!

I have the sweetest visiting teacher (from our church)! Every month she drops by the most creative thoughts and treats. She brought these cherries in the cutest little bowl -- almost too cute to eat! She has been through chemotherapy this last year but has never missed a month without at least calling me. I feel like I should be the one checking in on her.
We've been waiting and waiting for the doll fabric to get in at my husband's store. It's finally here -- and now I'm trying to muster up some enthusiasm to make some quilts out of it for the granddaughters. . . sigh.
We are still waiting for our little grandson to arrive this week. Looks like he will have a July birthday.

P.S. Be sure to visit Nedra's blog for fun give aways all week. This is one of my favorite quilt blogs to follow!

Plan C

I've been looking forward to some time off work for months. I took Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off this week.

Plan A: Take the trailer out camping. No go! Jaycee couldn't miss anymore summer school and Gary had a big delivery he had to take to St. George Tuesday. No problem, new plan.

Plan B: Plenty of sewing/quilting projects to keep me busy. Good time to finish the touch up painting in the downstairs bathroom and hallway. Maybe I'll even have time to paint our bedroom. Didn't happen.

Plan C: Fever, chills, body aches and bad chest cold. I spent my time off in bed feeling awful.

My girls had scheduled appointments for pedicures for all of us today, taking me out for a Mother's Day present. Then we were going to Olive Garden for lunch. They felt bad going without me, but I told them to. I knew Jamie really wanted a pedicure before her baby gets here. Their toes look so cute! Maybe next month we can give it another try.

Rain, rain, go away. . . .

Enough already! I'm so sick of the rain - and I LOVE rain. You'd think we lived in Oregon or Washington.
We had a little swamp by the rain gutter out back. I stepped in it and went up to my ankles in smushy wetness.
This was about the only sun we saw today.

Gary and I both had today off - his first Saturday off in months. Gary loaded the 4-wheelers last night so we could get up and go, but we woke up to windy, cold weather.

Every cloud has a silver lining - right? For me it was a trip up to South Jordan to one of my favorite quilt stores. He was a good sport and drove me up there, went in and shopped with me (the only man in the store), and pulled out his wallet to pay.
A fun collection for summer.

We've been trying to decide what color to paint our bedroom. I found a picture in a magazine last night in the greens/browns that we both loved. Material Girls had a display quilt out of these fabrics are the right colors - yeah! Now I've got a little project to make a new quilt for our bed.

Just a little sewing...

I made this quilt top Sunday afternoon - just a baby size. I used the same pattern as below called "Sweet Clover."
My mom did this quilt about a year ago and I really loved it. My husband has the fabric at his store and I keep looking at it, and finally just brought it home. I've got enough to do one in the peach/yellow and one in blue/yellow. I've even thought about putting them both together in a king size quilt for our bed.

Conversation in the car

Driving along and an 18-wheeler from a local school who teaches people how to drive them passes by.
Gary: Clear the road!
Carrie: That would freak me out to have to drive one of those.
Gary: Not me! I would love it, it would be so fun!
Carrie: Maybe you should do it. Wait. . . that means you would be gone all the time and I would have to cook!
Jaycee: Don't you mean that means you would be gone all the time and I would miss you dearly?

Doctors and tissues and antibiotics. . .oh my!

My 14-year-old (Jaycee) has been sick for over a week. She started last Monday night with the sniffles and just did not get better. We went to the Urgent Care which was a waste of time and money. She was still so bad on Sunday that I took her the emergency room. Finally some help! She has a nasty, bad sinus infection. Yesterday she felt good enough to get out of bed and go to summer school. Today she's back to normal - thank goodness! I was worried with her having the fever and chills for 5-6 days that she might have something bad - like the Swine Flu. How would I explain that to all the people who were in my house for the baby shower on Saturday??? They tested her for influenza A and B, which were negative. . . whew! No one else has gotten sick either (knock on wood).

I bought this pattern at the quilt store. It's a diaper/wipe case with a changing pad from "All My Bags & Quilts Too." I couldn't get the web site to work to give the link. They sew up really quick.
I was amazed at how tiny the newborn diapers are. How quickly you forget that they start out so small. My favorite feature is how the changing pad is separate from the bag so you can toss it in the washer (I didn't forget how messy babies can be!).
It's been kind of fun to whip up a few of these - a little break from quilting.

Baby Shower for Jamie

We had a baby shower on Saturday for my daughter, Jamie. This is Jamie with Grandma R.
The picture above is a quilt Grandma O. made for her -- such a cute cowboy quilt. I didn't get pictures of the other quilts she got. Tracy made her one and I made a couple. I finished the truck quilt and it matches the diaper bag Nann made her. I'll have to get some pictures to post later.
I tried to pick out a picture with a good view of the belly. I just love the pregnant belly!

Eden came dressed to help in her apron.
These are the party favors Jodi and I made. It's a pack of popcorn that says "About to POP!" and a bag of kisses. Who knew that they make cookies and cream kisses in a blue wrapper? Perfect for the occasion.

We had chicken salad sandwiches -- one of my favorite things to make out of roasted chickens you get at Sam's Club. They are so easy and delish. You cut up the chicken into bite size pieces. Add enough Miracle Whip or Mayo to make it moist. Cut up 1/2 of an onion (we like the white onions), about 1/2 cup chopped celery, 1-2 teaspoons of Bon Appetit, and 1-2 teaspoons of dill weed. We really don't follow a recipe, just season it to taste.
We really had a good turnout -- even with some family out of town. Thanks so much to our families for their support! My parents and 2 sisters were in Las Vegas that weekend with my sister, Dena's family for the baby blessing of my niece's little boy, Max -- so it was a busy weekend for all.
