Mason Jar pumpkins

My sister, Dena, sent me this link to a new Halloween project. Jaycee and I had fun making them.
It's an overcast cold day so my pumpkins and ghosts didn't light up too good. You'll really have to check out the pictures on the link.....they are so much better than mine. I need to get some tea lights for them.
I got my sister's friend's quilt done this week too....whew! Now maybe I can get a couple of mine done this weekend.

Old quilt ......Finally done....

This is the 3rd old quilt I finally finished machine quilting. It did my mother-in-law's, aunt Doris' and now this one is aunt Lois'. They were made by their grandma for graduation presents. I'm a little embarassed to admit that I've had this quilt for about a year and am now just getting to it. Can I say....it feels like a big relief to have it done.
I was nervous to do these quiltes because they are so old and I would hate to mess them up. This one was hand pieced. I can only imagine the hours and hours of work that went into it. The colors are kinda bright, but I love the overall look.
Our married kids stopped by last night with the grandkids. I got a picture of Jack and Brooklynn together. They are 3 weeks apart in age. Jack kept looking at Brooklynn...finally someone his size to play with.

Scrappy Log Cabin

I got my twin size scrappy log cabin quilt quilted and bound this week. I should be doing other things that are more important.....but I needed to see this project finished. I don't plan ahead when I cut out quilts, just do what I think I will need, so I have enough for another one and possibly a baby quilt.
I love my Jack -- just want to kiss his checks and cuddle with him. Jamie always dresses him so cute....or should I say handsome?

I had to go into work today for training. It was a pain to get up, dressed , makeup on , etc. I'm so used to my usual morning commute of 14 stairs down to my office. As I'm driving on the freeway out to Orem in the slow lane, sipping my instant breakfast (Diet Dew), I notice that cars are going around me and passing like I'm standing still. I want to know when I became that old fart going too slow that I used to complain about??

A fun sewing day!

My Dad made this quilt hanger for the great room addition to their house. Mom's quilt is really pretty hanging there.

This is the quilt Mom has on the frames right now. I admire her for hand quilting them. I gave up on that long ago. When I was in high school/college I used to enjoy hand quilting and spent many afternoons quilting with my Mom and sisters. It seems like Mom always had a quilt on the frames. Here's a few of Mom's quilts on her quilting ladder.
Mom, my sisters Nann, Tracy and Kathy, niece Sophie, Jaycee, and I took advantage of her big room to put up tables and sew on Saturday. It was really fun and I took pictures of everyone -- but they are so dark I didn't post them. I should have taken pictures of our projects but forgot. I did get this cute picture of my niece, Sophie, helping her mom lay out pieces of the quilt she was working on. She saw grandma doing it earlier and had to give it a try herself.
I think Sophie looks a lot like her mom (Kathy) did at that age. She's so adorable. Lat time we sewed she didn't want anything to do with me. She must have decided that I wasn't so scary this time and even let me tease her!

My project is Cherry Turnovers -- a quilt kit I got on our recent trip to St. George. I got a lot cut out but only a couple blocks made. I guess I spent too much time visiting and not enough sewing :-)
Nann and Tracy worked on a cute Thanksgiving Table Topper. I'll have to take a picture of one of them to show you -- so fun!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This post is dedicated to my sister, Nann, a breast cancer survivor! I remember sitting in the waiting room in October a couple years ago with my sister, Tracy, while Nann had her surgery. There were pink reminders in the hospital gift shop that it was breast cancer awareness month, so now every time I see that pink ribbon it takes me back to that day. She had radiation therapy after her surgery. I pray that it NEVER, EVER comes back.

Just a reminder to all the women out there to be sure to get your mammograms!

OUCH!!

My mother-in-law (Marion) took a little spill yesterday -- well actually not so little. My in-laws are avid bowlers, even in their 70s now they still love to bowl. They go to St. George every fall for the Senior Games (coming up next week in fact). They were bowling yesterday and Marion tripped over a bowling bag and fell, hurting her shoulder really bad. She dislocated and broke it. They sedated her in the ER and couldn't get things back, so they did surgery today.
They ended up having to replace her shoulder with something like this. We haven't been to see her yet since my Father-in-law said she is still pretty sedated. I feel so bad for her. It makes me cringe to think how much that must hurt!
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for her -- and thank goodness it wasn't her bowling shoulder!!

Pumpkin Time

This is pottery pumpkin is one of my favorite Halloween decorations. We brought 2 of them back from Silver Dollar City near Branson, Missouri years ago when we used to go every year. I love to get them out every fall!

Other big news.....my nephew Eric just got home this week from his mission (for our church) to Macon, Georgia. They live in Vegas but came up this weekend for General Conference. It was soooo good to see him again. I didn't get a very good picture. Poor guy, I think he was tired of posing for pictures. My other nephew, Blake, is kind of in the picture. It was fun to see all the boy cousins get together with Eric -- I think they missed each other!
I picked one last bowl of tomatoes before the freeze came. I'm hoping the green ones will get ripe too. I hate to give up my tomato sandwiches until next year....sigh.

I got inspired by blogger Crazy Mom Quilts to make a Quilt of Valor. I was going to send her some blocks, but had so much fun making them that I decided to do my own quilt and send in. What a great way to honor the men and women who have served our country, and sacrificed so much for us. Here's a link to the Quilts of Valor website if anyone is interested.
