A slow week.....

Nothing like a sleeping baby!
Eden and I have an ongoing "fight" over who gets to use the computer. Every time she comes over she has to get on, check her aquarium, and feed her fish on her facebook game. I set up an aquarium myself, but I don't check it very often....well only when Eden is here so I can fight with her over who gets to use the computer!
Jared made us a breadboard for Christmas. He just finished it and brought it over last week. He tells me this is his form of "quilting!" It's so pretty that I don't want to use it!

I haven't been enjoying our cold weather. I'm so ready for spring. This cold just makes me ache....EVERYWHERE! Last night I was really miserable. Every joint and muscle just hurt. I went to bed at 7 p.m., had a little self-pity party and cried a bit. Not even watching Apolo skate could cheer me up. I really want to move to Southern Utah/St. George and the warmer climate! It's an idea we are thinking about right now.

Mmmmm...cake bites!

It's my sister's birthday today (Happy Birthday Jenny), so I went to Sweet Tooth Fairy here in Provo and got her a cupcake. Good excuse for me to get some Mint Cake Bites. I don't go there often because I'm sure they are loaded with calories....but they taste so good.
Just an update of progress in the bathroom. Soon...I hope...it will be done. It feels like that movie the Money Pit where the contractor keeps telling them their house will be done in 2 weeks.
We picked out the paint so we can get going on the bedroom while the bathroom is still in progress. We moved our bed to the spare room a couple of weeks ago. It's weird sleeping in there since it's on the opposite side of the house. It takes a minute to figure out where the bedroom door is in the middle of the night.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is my Dad's 72nd birthday. I made this painted rock for him when I was in grade school. For years it had a place of honor on his nightstand next to his alarm clock. When my parents moved from Springville to Provo about 12 years ago I inherited it. I had it tucked away in a box and just ran across it a while ago. It now sits on my nightstand. It reminds me of my Dad. Things I love about Dad:

1. He loves to look at stars at night and watch for satellites and meteor showers.
2. He has lots of hats that the grandkids talk him into wearing and talking in his funny voices.
3. I love that he is retired and wears casual clothes most of the time now. Growing up he was always in suits and ties. He was superstitious that if he took off his tie he would get a call (he is a mortician), so he was in that suit from morning till night most days.
4. He got me a dog when I was having a hard time making friends in middle school (I'm sure he was literally in the dog house with my Mom for that one!).
5. I have happy memories of watching Nascar races with him.
6. He has the best sense of humor and always has a joke ready to tell.

I could go on and on. I know I got the best Dad in the world. Love you Dad!!

Valentine's Day

I got some beautiful flowers from Gary (in my favorite color). It's always a special day on Valentines, but especially this year. It marks the30th anniversary of our getting engaged.
Who were those young kids? I remember when that picture was taken for our invitations. I wondered where we would be in 10 or 20 years. I have to say that the last 30 years haven't always been easy...but they have brought us to where we are today. I'm more in love with him today that I could ever imagine. He's my best friend. I love it when he's home from work and puttering around the house or yard. I love camping and 4-wheeling with him. He's so cute when he puts his baseball hat on backwards with his sunglasses and zooms off on his wheeler. We have been blessed with a wonderful family, the joy of seeing our kids grow up and get married and give us the best grandkids in the world!

Valentine Quilt

It's my goal to get a quilt for every month for the entry way. Maybe this year it will really happen. I bought a couple of charm packs 3 years ago when I worked at the Cotton Shop. I dug them out the other day and whipped up this Valentine quilt. Yeah! Now I need to think about a March quilt.
We've been doing some major spring cleaning at our house. It feels so GOOD to get rid of stuff. I've saved receipts, checks, taxes, etc. since we were married almost 30 years ago. I know...I only need 7 years worth of taxes, right? I think I had an irrational fear of getting audited. I had a burn party on Sunday. I took 20 years of that stuff and burned it. I figured it would take forever to shred it all, and it was a cold morning anyway, so why not burn?

A little more progress.

Brandon signed his name in the cement in the floor of the shower. He had a blast out back banging on the old pink sink and playing in the pile of junk that got thrown out during the demolition phase.

Making sure the sink fits in the hole before they tile the counter. It's such a long process to remodel, but I'm getting excited to see it all starting to come together.

I had the easy part.....snuggling with the babies while the guys worked. Not getting any sewing done, but maybe tomorrow I can sneak down to my room and do some.

Things have to get worse (or ugly in this case)......

before they get better. I'm a little embarrassed to post this black hole that was our master bathroom shower. This is a good picture. The floor is all torn up and it's really a mess right now. The shower hasn't worked for two, yes that's right, TWO LONG YEARS! It has been okay since the rest of the bathroom is functional, and we have a bath/shower in the main upstairs bathroom.

This pile of tile, grout, new sink, etc. in my living room is proof that some progress is being made. Woohoo!! My boys are working on it as I'm writing this. Can I say I'm thankful for their finish carpentry and plumbing training!!

They got smaller tiles for the floor of the shower and bathroom counter top. It got me thinking that I might get brave and do my kitchen behind the stove and sink in small tiles. I found some really pretty tiles at Home Depot I keep looking at. (NOTE: The last 2 sentences mean I will talk my sons into doing it for me....they just don't know it yet!)

Only 11 days until....

The Winter Olympics!! I can't wait. Love them. I'm a big fan of Apolo Anton Ohno and the Short Track Speedskating. Oh, I just can't wait!!
***************
Last Monday Gary and I got to watch Jared's 2 girls. Gary took a few hours off of work...not to help...but because he hadn't seen his girls for awhile and wanted to play with them and kiss their cheeks. Brookie found her tongue. It's so cute how she sticks it out. She is the most laid back baby I've ever seen. So mellow and happy all the time.
And here's Miss Jayda. She is very independent and knows what she wants. Such a character!
When I got out the camera she pulled a face for me!
We love it when she calls us Poppa and Gamma!
